Drumgoon Éire Óg GAA Club, founded in 1904, has long been a cornerstone of the parish of Drumgoon, nestled within the Mountain Lodge wind farm catchment area. As a hub for sports, recreation, and community engagement, the club offers a wide range of activities, including football, hurling, camogie, handball, walking, running, and multi-sport programs. Their facilities cater to all ages, from young children to retirees, and welcome people of all backgrounds.
The club’s facilities, including their new sports hall, are shared with local groups such as Community Alert, Happy Feet Walkers, Foroige, and Dernakesh National School for fitness classes and indoor training. Boyle Park, their home base, is a safe, traffic-free space that is open year-round to both club members and the wider community.
With support from the Mountain Lodge wind farm community fund an upgrade to the walkway and extend their existing walkway was planned. The project created a fully looped track by addressing flooding issues, resurfacing the walkway, and improving safety for users.
A new drainage system will be installed, and the track will be marked to ensure all users walk or run in the same direction, promoting safety.
This upgrade will ensure the walkway remains accessible and safe for all users throughout the year, supporting the club’s mission to provide inclusive recreational opportunities. Thanks to these improvements, Boyle Park will continue to serve as a vital resource for the community, bringing people together in a safe and welcoming environment.
Tom Farrell, Club PRO Drumgoon Eire Og GAA Club has stated "The walking track is open to all, and is used extensively all day long and all year round. In summer people walk around, while their children are training, and in winter we run a couch to 5K. Thank you to Mountain Lodge Wind Farm for their support."
