Wind Farm:                  Mountain Lodge

Applicant:                     Lavey Ladies Football

Project:                        Community Defibrillator

Amount Awarded:       €1,955

Applicant groups' background and experience:

Lavey Ladies aims at promoting Ladies gaelic football for underage and senior players. In addition to the sporting aspect and as part of its social responsibility and engagement in the community, Lavey ladies has always fundraised for local club or support services. These activities supported are usually linked to welfare and wellbeing of the local residents such as cancer support services or local mental health support group. Provision and maintenance of community defibrillators is also an activity undertaken by Lavey ladies. As the parish is very geographically spread and traversed by the very busy N3 road, more defibrillators are required at key locations.

Project Description:

To purchase a community/public defibrillator to be located at Lavey community centre & playground. This project aims at purchasing a defibrillator which will be setup outside Lavey Community centre.

The device will be accessible by the public and users of the community centre, adjacent playground, school and church. With attendees of the community centre activities being mainly middle-age and elderly, this increase the risk of cardiac problems. This project will provide an AED for critical timely first aid and will bridge the gap in the first aid chain given that the next closest defibrillator is about 20 to 25 minutes away.

What is different in peoples’ lives as a result of this project?

“There is now an AED which will benefit users of the church, adjacent playground and community centre”

What were the highlights of your project?

“Obtaining the Windfarm Community fund was a key enabler to this project. At a time where community fundraising is getting more and more difficult and is continuously competing with many other fundraisers, obtaining the Windfarm Community fund was the key enabler to our project.”

A huge thank you to Walter Bourgoin, Juvenile chairperson, for completing this Case study.
